Where can I get an SSH client?
We're glad you're concerned about security too! Its our job to provide you with secure facilities, but only you can protect your own data and passwords. If you're using Mac OS/X, you already have an ssh client. Just open up a terminal and type 'ssh email@example.com'.
No matter which SSH client you decide to use, your connection settings will be the same. Specifically, you must connect to the host login.geekisp.com. Connecting to yourdomain.com will try and connect you to our webserver, where you don't have an account. Therefore, always connect to login.geekisp.com.
We recommend several excellent SSH clients for windows:
Putty is a great, free SSH client that's simple to use and easy to setup. Just follow the above link to download. There are also related programs that do scp and sftp.
SSH from SSH Communications is a more full featured SSH client, but not 100% free. If you're using it for personal or educational use, its ok, but if you're a corporate entity then you're required to obtain a license. You can download by selecting a mirror.
FileZilla is an Open Source FTP client with support for encrypted FTP as well as SFTP. It is free, has a nice interface, and allows you to use different levels of encryption - from encrypting everything with SFTP to just your data channel (ergo, your password) using encrypted ftp.
Some customers have found FileZilla too inflexible a program. Those looking for an alternative might consider FTP Navigator. It does not support S/FTP.
Any of these SSH clients will work with our systems at GeekISP, so just pick whichever you like best! As always, send questions
